Through regular hikes, scouts will build confidence, develop teamwork skills, and work toward hiking-related achievements and awards. The program promotes the values of Scouting while helping scouts connect with the natural world and foster a lifelong love of the outdoors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-adlam-display-font-family\" style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--superbspacing-small);margin-bottom:0\">Program Rules<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:100\">All Scouts are required to have a parent or guardian with them on the hike.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:100\">Hiking trips will take place once a month on the weekends. See Hiking Club calendar for details.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:100\">Hikes will be 1-3 miles, some trips might be slightly longer on occasion.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:100\">Expect each hike to take 1-2.5 hours<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:100\">Scouts should wear their Class B t-shirt<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:100\">Hiking will be rain or shine, however if there is severe weather (thunder, lightning, heavy rain, icy conditions, etc), the hike will be cancelled.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:100\">Scouts should be dressed appropriately for the weather. Wear comfortable shoes with appropriate socks &#8211; no open toed shoes or sandals<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:100\">Please bring your six essentials on every hike (water, sunscreen, first-aid kit, snack, flashlight, whistle).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:100\">Family members are encouraged to attend.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:100\">Only two-legged family members may attend &#8211; no dogs at Cub Scout events please.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-adlam-display-font-family\" style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--superbspacing-small)\">Program Cost<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:100\">There is no program fee for registered Pack 49 Cub Scouts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:100\">There is no program fee for family members to hike with us.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-contrast-dark-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-d1bb6e2b9ab5ff394822fa9557504614\" style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:100\">There will be an admission fee for some parks. To keep the cost down, we have chosen to only include WI State Parks. These awards celebrate dedication, teamwork, and a love for nature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--superbspacing-xsmall);font-style:normal;font-weight:100\">The following hiking awards will be presented immediately after each hike:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:100\">First hike you will receive a wooden Pack 49 hiking club keychain<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:100\">For every Pack hike you will receive a blue bead to add to your keychain<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:100\">For every 5 miles hiked you will receive a yellow\/gold bead to add to your keychain<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--superbspacing-xsmall);font-style:normal;font-weight:100\">The following hiking awards will be presented at Pack meetings:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:100\">15 miles hiked: hiking stick<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:100\">30 miles hiked: Pack water bottle<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:100\">50 miles hiked: medallion for hiking stick<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:100\">Every 10 miles from 60 to 90: hiking themed charm<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:100\">100 miles: 100 mile club plaque<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:100\">10 out of 12 hikes completed: rank medallion<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--superbspacing-xsmall);font-style:normal;font-weight:100\">Cub Scouts will continue earning awards as they grow\u2014awards won\u2019t start over each year but will build throughout their journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-adlam-display-font-family\" style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--superbspacing-small);margin-bottom:0\">Earning Miles<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:100\">All Pack hikes will count toward your total hiking miles. You can also earn additional miles through family hikes; however, to qualify for an award, at least 60% of your total miles must come from official Pack activities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:100\">Only hikes in natural settings count\u2014neighborhood or city walks do not qualify.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:100\">To receive credit for family hikes, you must submit a hike worksheet within one month of the hike; paper or digital.
